Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro

Designed with Gran Turismo Sport and in partnership with Polyphony Digital, the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro is the firstDirect Drive steering wheel officially licensed for PlayStation 5.

Sold as a bundle, you get the base GT DD Pro itself, the Gran Turismo steering wheel, a CSL pedal set without clutch and the DD desktop support. So, unlike the CSL DD or other Fanatec bases, you don’t have to bother looking for compatible products. You get it all in one go from the start.

The Fanatec Gran Turismo DD bundle is available in 3versions, the entry-level pro version (5 Nm), the pro version (8 Nm) and the premium version.

The steering wheel 28 cm diameter, it is covered with synthetic leather and very easy to handle. It has all PlayStation and even more, as it includes five funky switches (4+1), a LED strip for revolutions and a small OLED screen for gears or other information.

The Fanatec GT DD Pro steering wheel is also equipped with two plastic paddles with magnetic sensors, the Standard Tuning menu, which allows beginners to get started quickly without having to worry about settings, and the QuickRelease system.

Fanatec Clubsport F1 Racing Wheel

The Fanatec Clubsport F1 takes authenticity and luxury to a whole new level, and is without doubt one of the most breathtaking wheels available from Fanatec.

This steering wheel is distributed under an official F1 and PlayStation license and is of course compatible with PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, as well as PC.

Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Extreme

Fanatec, the German sim-racing peripherals giant, is determined to regain its segment leadership with its latest product launches. The brand has not only launched a brand-new range of steering wheels developed in partnership with BMW and Sparco, but its catalog has also been enriched with two new Direct Drive bases and two new bundles.

For fans of sim-racing on Playstation, the brand has simply redone a rather simple recipe, but a winning one I must say. Sony console racers are no doubt familiar with bundles Gran Turismo from Fanatec, and the manufacturer has updated its catalog again, this time with a new flywheel and a new base developing 15 nm of constant torque.

This bundle includes GT DD Extreme the ClubSport DD+ base, which delivers a constant 15 nm of torque, more than enough for racing fans on the small screen. On the menu: a high degree of customization of the base’s parameters, enabling it to deliver the most precise force feedback, whether on the lightest or the heaviest effects. You’ll be totally immersed in it.

And to top it all off, Fanatec has worked with Polyphonie Studio on a new steering wheel, slightly more premium than the old one, but very much like it too. You can’t change a winning team, can you?

This new bundle is available now on the Fanatec website for €1,300. Compatibility is obviously with PC and Playstation, and of course with other Fanatec products.

The Thrustmaster T598

The last few years have seen a renaissance for Thrustmaster, notably with the release of its first Direct Drive base: the T818. This is a top-of-the-range model, aiming to compete with the Simagic and Fanatec models in its segment. But Thrustmaster made its name with entry-level bundles, aimed at drivers who wanted to have fun first and foremost. In this segment, only Logitech can compete with Thrustmaster, as all other brands have moved up to the next level.

Except that the T818 isn’t at all aimed at a Sunday couch potato, but at an experienced driver with a good setup. To fill a new gap in its catalog, Thrustmaster is releasing the T598, a DD base perfectly suited to this category of driver.

It’s a Direct Drive peripheral with axial motor (new technology) developing 5 nm of torque, with overbooster function. The base comes with a rather nice, small-diameter, all-round steering wheel, as well as a new LTE (Long Term Evolution) crankset. This crankset will replace the T3PM, or even the T-LCM, as it will feature a Load Cell kit in the future.

This bundle is quite qualitative, at least in terms of feel compared to other Thrustmaster bases. But compared with the competition from Fanatec and Moza, the base lacks finesse and communication, leaving the field wide open to driving parasites.

The Fanatec Ready2Race Bundle

As its name suggests, this bundle is designed to satisfy novice riders who are new to the discipline. In this kit, you get a 30 cm diameter CSL P1 steering wheel with two large paddles at the rear, a small screen on the top of the wheel, a polymer structure and a rubber finish. The QR of this steering wheel is made of plastic, and will therefore have a slight gap in the center. To be honest, this steering wheel is pretty basic, but it does the trick for those looking to get started in sim-racing.

The bundle also includes the CSL Pedalsthe entry-level pedalboard from Fanatec. You have 2 very simple pedals, in metal and without Load Cell. Here too, it’s a very basic peripheral that’s not intended for seasoned pilots.

And last but not least, the main course: the CSL DD of 5 nm. In fact, it’s this base that’s most important in this bundle. Developing 5 nm of max torque, the CSL DD will provide you with an excellent dose of realism, surpassing all the competition in its power and price range. What’s more, this database opens the door to Fanatec ‘s entire catalog of sim-racing peripherals.

This bundle can be exchanged for almost 550, but is often on special offer for 500 €. Again, no savings on items, but this is the cheapest bundle offered by the sim-racing peripherals manufacturer.

The Fanatec Formula V2.5

The ClubSport Formula V2. 5 steering wheel has a diameter of 27 cm and is covered with a 5 mm carbon fiber plate. It has two adjustable magnetic metal paddles for shifting gears.

It also features two vibration motors built into the handles, which are controllable through the wheel setup menu (SHO) or in-game via Fanatec SDK, as well as an OLED display, a tachometer with 9 central LEDs for telemetry and two LED bars.

The Fanatec Formula V2.5 steering wheel is equipped with the QuickRelease system and is compatible with the PC of course, but also with the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The Fanatec brand offers an almost identical version, the Formula V2.5x for Xbox compatibility.

This steering wheel model from Fanatec’s ClubSport line offers many customization options and is made of high quality materials that can last a lifetime of sim racing. While it may be a bit too much for young beginners, we found the Fanatec Formula V2. 5 to be a really great wheel that offers an incredible playing feel.

The Logitech G923

The G923 Trueforce is a Logitech steering wheel, with greater compatibility than previous models and a new feedback system offering greater fidelity and realism in simulation.

The Logitech G923 steering wheel has a diameter of 28 cm and is made of polished metal covered with leather. It has two rotating steel paddles at the rear of the wheel for shifting gears.

The Logitech G923’s rotation angle is 900°, the equivalent of two and a half turns, which allows for better control of the vehicle.

This steering wheel is equipped with Trueforce, the next generation force feedback system. This new forced feedback system improves the feedback rate and connects directly to the game’s physics and simulation engines to improve fidelity and increase the level of realism of the simulation over previous generations.

It has a closed-loop motor control that, thanks to a new firmware, makes the motor torque more accurate. In this way, the engine more precisely adjusts the voltage to match the physics emitted by the video game, ensuring millimeter precision.

The Logitech G923 includes a 3-pedal pedal system, which includes a throttle, clutch, and brake with a progressive spring system for a more realistic racing feel. The height and spacing of the metal plates can be adjusted.

This model also offers a dual clutch programmed directly from the steering wheel with the Launch Control feature, available with compatible games.

This steering wheel model also has a built-in LED indicator. It is accessible directly from our point of view so that we can quickly see when we are reaching the right rpm point and use the gear shift more efficiently.

The Logitech G923 steering wheel has an ergonomic design with accessible controls. No matter what gaming platform you use it on, you have all the controls you need, easily accessible on a small steering wheel like its predecessors but with a very good feel. It includes a rotary selector with which to fine-tune all settings and adjustments.

The Thrustmaster T300RS GT

The Thrustmaster T300RS GT steering wheel features a 28 cm detachable wheel with an adjustable rotation angle from 270° to 1080°.

Its brushless motor and dual-belt system ensure precise, powerful force feedback. The sensations felt during the race are incredibly realistic.

In terms of construction and design there is almost nothing to complain about, the steering wheel is mainly made of black metal and the finish work is really clean.

The Thrustmaster T300RS GT steering wheel is very versatile and you can use it for rally, GT or even F1 racing.

It also has the advantage of being equipped with H.E.A.R.T (Halleffect Accurate Technology) and a quick and easy steering wheel change system.

In addition to being PC compatible, this model also has the advantage of being PlayStation licensed and therefore compatible with the PlayStation 4 and work with PlayStation 5 games.

With the Thrustmaster T300RS GT, you have the best steering wheel in its class at a price that is certainly very reasonable.

The Hori Racing Wheel Apex

The Hori Apex steering wheel has long been one of the cheapest models on the market, but also one of the best value for money, given that it is officially licensed by Sony.

The biggest advantage of this model is that it’s wireless, which is very convenient if you want to forget about cables altogether or if you don’t have a fixed place to play on your PC. After each game, you can put it away without the cables getting tangled.

In terms of autonomy, on each charge, it is able to offer up to 15 hours of play. There is another version with cable in case you don’t want to worry about the battery.

It has vibrations with TouchSense technology, which allows you to feel a very realistic sensation while driving. Its rotation angle ranges from 180 to 270°.

The Hori Apex steering wheel also features a two-pedal pedal unit with folding footrests, so it takes up as little space as possible when not in use.

The steering wheel has all the buttons you’ll find on the PlayStation and it also has paddles to manage the gear shift. The wheel is covered with rubber which allows a very good grip and its diameter is 28 cm.

It is important to keep in mind that the steering wheel mounting system combines suction cups and clamps so that it has the maximum possible stability and you only have to focus on driving.

Last but not least, it is compatible with both PC and PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles.

The Thrustmaster T150 – TMX Pro

The Thrustmaster T150 – TMX Force Feedback is probably the best entry-level wheel you can find on the market today.

The TMX is designed to be compatible with Xbox One and PC while the T150 is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC.

This is a model that is perfect for beginners but is also great for more regular players.

The Thrustmaster TMX-T150 steering wheel has a diameter of 28 cm with a rotation and turning range of 270° to 900° and features large all-metal sequential paddles.

This model is equipped with a force feedback with a brushless motor that offers many power settings. It also features a unique belt pulley system that channels engine sounds while providing a smooth feel.

It also includes a large two-pedal pedal set with three adjustable pedal angles.

The Thrustmaster TMX-T150 is convincing on both PC and console and promises to deliver incredible sensations during racing and long game sessions.

The Logitech G29 – G920

The Logitech Driving Force G290-G29 steering wheel is, without a doubt, an excellent model and very popular among beginners.

It’s made of anodized aluminum and features paddle shifters and a pedal board that is both sturdy and comfortable for a more complete simulation experience. It also uses a simple gearing system that does not incorporate belts of any kind to simplify its use.

The Logitech G920-G29 features a dual-motor force feedback and helical gearing system for smooth, quiet steering and the most realistic driving experience. This allows you to feel the tires at every turn and simulates the effects of vibration in a very realistic way so you can react accurately.

Besides, its rotation angle is 900 degrees and it has a 14-button panel, optimizing its function specifically for PlayStation for the G29 and for Xbox for the G920.

The Logitech G920-G29 continues to be the model that we feel offers one of the best value for money, with features that guarantee a very realistic driving feel.
