Many of us have had a passion for racing simulation games from a young age. In recent years, technology has evolved so much that it has become difficult to resist the urge to equip oneself with the best products to improve the sensations felt during the game.

The joysticks have been largely replaced by racing wheels in terms of realism. But you still need to know which model to choose among all those offered on the market today.

That’s why today we decided to take a look at the Logitech G29 steering wheel that we recently tested, to tell you everything there is to know about this model. In this article we will tell you about its main features, the type of player we recommend it to , the advantages and disadvantages we have found with the G29 wheel, how much it costs and where you can buy it.

Logitech G29 features

The Logitech G29 steering wheel is a mid-range model that succeeds the brand’s G27 and has met with great commercial success as it even won the Design Award in 2016.

For what type of person?

We consider that the high price of the Logitech G29 model tends to make this steering wheel more suitable for passionate and regular users. But it can also be suitable for beginners who want to try racing simulation and can afford it.

The Logitech G29 is a steering wheel that fits all sizes, as both the pedals and the paddles are adjustable and the 28 cm diameter wheel fits both adult and child hands.

Its advantages

We were able to test the G29 steering wheel from Logitech, and this allowed us to discover the advantages of this model that has been so successful.

First of all, we liked the design and ergonomics of the Logitech G29 steering wheel. Its wheel is beautiful, with a very classy and realistic look. Moreover, it is very easy and pleasant to handle and it allows access to many functions thanks to its many buttons whose locations have been thought for optimal comfort and convenience.

This is a steering wheel with excellent build quality. The choice of materials used, such as leather instead of the rubber chosen by most competitors on the market, make this model a steering wheel whose quality is placed at the top of the range.

We were also particularly convinced by the three-pedal pedal board that comes with the Logitech G29, which is also of very good quality.

It is quite heavy, which allows it to offer great stability during play. We also greatly appreciated the ability to adjust the spacing between the pedals.

The Logitech G29 steering wheel is also a lightweight model, which makes it easy to install and move. In addition, its fixing system is simple and effective and will require little time. The recognition on PlayStation is done automatically and as for the PC, the wheel includes a software that is very reliable and intuitive, which allows an optimal and simple configuration.

Its disadvantages

Our test of the Logitech G29 steering wheel also showed us the less positive aspects of this steering wheel, which is not so different from its predecessor, the G27.

The biggest problem we had with the Logitech G29 was that its force feedback was both abrupt and unbalanced. While its dual-motor system offers a powerful feel, it also clearly lacks smoothness, resulting in dry, noisy movements. There is also a problem with the presence of a dead zone that can make the feeling during the race quite contradictory.

On closer inspection, we found that the leather stitching on the Logitech G29 steering wheel was quite rough. We felt some roughness under the thumbs, which is not very pleasant during the race. The use of gloves may become necessary if, like us, this sensation bothers you to play.

We were also a little disappointed by the paddles of the G29 steering wheel which are necessarily mobile, since there is no mechanism to make them fixed. We know it’s a matter of personal taste, but some players, like us, prefer to have a choice and others prefer them to stay in the same position.

Finally, we find that Logitech’s G29 steering wheel has a rather high price for a model released in 2015 and which does not offer, neither shifter (it is sold as an option at € 59.99), nor the option to swap the wheel. At a base price of €399 offered by the brand, this is not really a model that everyone can afford to buy.

Where to get it and for how much?

The Logitech G29 steering wheel is available for sale for €399 on the official Logitech website. Currently, you can save some money on its price if you choose to buy the complete equipment: the Logitech G29 steering wheel + the Driving Force Shifter + the G435 headset. The whole is sold for 371,33 €.

It is also offered at a much lower price at various retailers, for example on Amazon.fr at the moment.

You can also buy the Logitech G29 used on resale sites such as Le Bon Coin, for much less. However, pay close attention to the condition of the steering wheel to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Conclusion

Our test allowed us to discover the Logitech G29 steering wheel, which certainly does not lack qualities. We were seduced by the quality of its manufacture, its design and its ergonomics and we loved its crankset which is both robust and comfortable.

We regret, however, that the Logitech steering wheel brand did not choose to upgrade its force feedback technology. The G29’s motor is powerful, but its force feedback is not as smooth and fluid as that of the steering wheels sold by its direct competitors on the market. And that is a real disappointment for us.

Logitech’s offer is still very coherent and the G29 steering wheel will delight more than one player with all its other assets and its very pleasant playing sensations. If you can afford this model, you should not regret your investment.
