No: the Fanatec CSL DD alone is not compatible with the PS5 (or the PS4). This is the question console gamers ask most often, so let’s just get straight to the point. If you play on PlayStation, you’ll need a different Fanatec base. We’ll get to that.
Why CSL DD Doesn’t Work on PS5
It all comes down to the license. For a steering wheel to work on a Sony console, the base unit must include an official chip and a PlayStation license. The standard CSL DD doesn’t have these: it’s designed for PC and Xbox, provided you use an Xbox-licensed steering wheel. On PlayStation, it remains unusable.
Is there an adapter?
No. There is no official adapter to make a bare CSL DD compatible with the PS5. PlayStation compatibility is built into the hardware from the design stage; it cannot be added after purchase. There’s no point in looking for a workaround.
The entry-level solution: the Gran Turismo DD Pro

If you’re on PS5 and want a Fanatec Direct Drive wheel, the first option is the Gran Turismo DD Pro. It’s essentially the same hardware as the CSL DD, with the same torque (5 Nm, or 8 Nm with the Boost Kit 180), but it’s officially licensed by PlayStation and developed in collaboration with Sony and Polyphony Digital. It works on PS5, PS4, and PC, and it’s what unlocks Gran Turismo 7 and other compatible games. On console, you simply need to pair it with a PlayStation-compatible steering wheel.
Want more power? The ClubSport DD+

If you want to step up to a higher-end model while staying on PlayStation, the ClubSport DD+ is the one to go for . It’s officially licensed for PS5 and PS4 (and also works on PC), with 18 Nm of torque—well above the 5 or 8 Nm of the GT DD Pro. Be careful not to confuse it with the “standard” ClubSport DD: despite its 15 Nm of torque, the latter is not PlayStation-compatible. On PS5, you’ll definitely need the DD+ version.
Which one should you choose for the PS5?
- Whether you’re just starting out or looking to fine-tune your setup on PS5/PS4: the GT DD Pro (5 or 8 Nm).
- Stepping up to the next level on PS5: the ClubSport DD+ (18 Nm).
- On PC or Xbox only: the CSL DD is all you need, and it’s cheaper.
In any case, the bottom line can be summed up in one sentence: the CSL DD alone will never work on PlayStation. For the PS5, you need a base unit that includes the Sony license, such as the GT DD Pro or ClubSport DD+.
