Good news for all those who drive CSL DD or Gran Turismo DD Pro: Fanatec will be rolling out a free firmware update that adds FullForce compatibility to these two bases. The date is set, June 16, 2026, and the announcement comes directly from Tobias Stelzer, VP and General Manager of Fanatec. Roll-out details are to follow within the week.

What is FullForce?

This is Fanatec’s in-house force feedback protocol. In the words of the brand, it merges high-fidelity vibrations with the main force feedback signal. In practice, it allows sim developers to add fine sensations on top of the classic FFB: engine vibrations, asphalt texture, or the onset of a loss of grip before it turns into a stall. The aim is simple: more detailed feedback, based on in-game physics or audio.

Who is concerned

The move targets two of Fanatec’s most affordable and widespread Direct Drive bases. Whether you’re on a PC with a CSL DD or the Gran Turismo DD Pro, you’re affected. The GT DD Pro has an added bonus: its combined PC and PlayStation compatibility. Gran Turismo 7 players are well placed, since the game already supports FullForce. Whether you’re running at 5 or 8 Nm, depending on your power supply, the function remains the same.

The downside, and it’s a real one

An important nuance: it’s up to game developers to implement FullForce. The update opens the door, but the actual benefit will depend on the sims playing the game. For Gran Turismo 7, this has already been done. On PC, it will depend on each studio, and the real value will vary from one title to another. As long as we don’t have widespread adoption, it’s more of an open door than a guarantee.

Why Fanatec does it

The logic is clear: extend the life of already well-established bases with a free software upgrade, rather than pushing for replacement. It’s also consistent with the company’s desire to open up its ecosystem, such as the announced hub for third-party steering wheels. For CSL DD and GT DD Pro owners, the calculation is simple: nothing to lose by installing the update, and potentially a lot to gain as soon as the games follow.
