There are many peripherals involved in a complete sim-racing setup. Direct Drive base, competition-specific steering wheel, Load Cell or hydraulic pedals, cockpit, bucket, handbrake, etc.

However, there’s one element that’s often taken lightly when it comes to building a race simulation setup, and that’s the sound aspect. Personally, I prefer a good sound setup to headphones.

From simple speakers next to your computer screen, to a 5.1 Dolby Atmos setup that lets you hear sounds and noises in all directions, it’s easy to get lost, and to spend a lot of money.

In what follows, we’ll take a look at the best speakers for sim-racing. I’ll divide the list into 3 categories: budget-friendly speakers, mid-range setups and the top-quality speakers you can find and use for sim-racing.

The best budget-friendly speakers

Just as the title suggests, we’re going to talk about budget-friendly speakers for sim-racing. I’m going to introduce you to devices that are fairly simple in terms of sound immersion, but which have the advantage of making only a small hole in your bank account.

Redragon GS500 Stentor

The Redragon GS500 are entry-level speakers in 2-channel configuration, i.e. stereo. The design of these loudspeakers is rather simple, with an all-black cabinet, the logo on each driver and red LEDs around the speakers.

The volume control is on the front, and the interface is 3.5 mm jack, USB and even a microphone input. The sound is decent for the price (€26), thanks to drivers that output low frequencies as well as highs. The format is compact, which should enable them to be used on many budget-friendly setups.

Logitech Z313 2.1

mclaren gt3 v2

Logitech is a brand with a strong foothold in the gaming market, with a comprehensive range of products for a wide spectrum of gamers, whether on PCs or consoles. The Swiss manufacturer is also active in sim-racing, as well as the audio segment.

For our list, we have the Z313 2.1, which is Logitech’s entry-level offering for 2.1 audio. This means you get 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer.

The design of the Z313 2.1 is minimalist, as we’re used to seeing from Logitech. The only color is black, whether for the speakers or the volume control. Sound quality is very good for the target segment, and the price is frankly unbeatable for the performance. Quality 2.1 speakers for under €40 are hard to come by.

The best mid-range speakers

Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II

mclaren gt3 v2

Creative is a major player in the world of audio, and the company dates back to the early 1980s. This gives it excellent experience in the audio industry, and you can “feel” it.

Creative’s range touches on everything in audio, and what interests us in the mid-range of HP sim-racing is the GigaWorks T40 Series II. Their design doesn’t look like much, nor even their size, but these loudspeakers spit out watts and, above all, quality sound.

Maximum power is 16 W per speaker, with integrated bass and treble in the same box. Compared with the other 2 above, the GigaWorks T40 lets you adjust the bass and treble according to your preferences. What’s more, the brand provides an audio input and a microphone on the front.

The Creative GigaWorks T40 Series 2 are a hair more expensive than other speakers, retailing for around €90. It’s a price worth paying for a brand that knows what it’s doing with sound, and audio quality in general.

PreSonus Eris 3.5 Gen 2

mclaren gt3 v2

PreSonus is probably a brand of audio equipment you haven’t heard of. The model I’ve chosen for this list is theEris 3.5 Gen 2, with bass and treble in a single cabinet, all outputting 50 W.

Eris’ design is very minimalist, with black dominating this device, and 3.5 and for the driver diameter which is 3.5 inches, and that’s why this pair of loudspeakers can output 50 W.

On the front is the sound level control, but all the fine tuning is done on the rear. It’s a little counter-intuitive, but I admit it keeps the design sober. There are also 2 3.5mm jacks on the front for input and output, without interfering with the overall aesthetic.

The Eris 3.5 is available in several configurations, including Bluetooth, 4.5″ and 5.25″ drivers, and an 8″ subwoofer. Depending on the model chosen, PreSonus Eris cost from €83 to just over €300.

The best high-end speakers

Razer Leviathan V2

mclaren gt3 v2

Razer is a premium brand in the gaming world, with laptops, keyboards, mice and other high-performance peripherals. The Leviathan V2 soundbar with subwoofer is just one of the products in this manufacturer’s catalog.

Razer’s stylistic code is very distinctive: virtually all the brand’s products are black, with a healthy dose of RGB, and above all a neon green logo. And the Leviathan soundbar features LEDs.

Let’s talk technicalities. The soundbar integrates a system with 7 loudspeakers with different driver diameters, and a separate subwoofer. This gives us a 7.1 configuration, but not really spatial sound, as the soundbar is only in front of you. Nevertheless, the sound quality is very good.

What’s more, the Leviathan V2 is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 Low Latency, so you can connect it to your smartphone and listen to music. Of course, this comes at a price, and it’s a premium one. Razor’s Leviathan V2 costs around €300.

Logitech Z906 5.1

mclaren gt3 v2

Last but not least, the Logitech Z906 5.1 is a true 5.1 sound system. In the box you’ll find 5 speakers and a subwoofer to place wherever you like in the room, plus an amplifier to control sound quality and output a maximum of 1000 W.

Logitech doesn’t waver from its stylistic code with this sound system, and so we find all-black peripherals, with Logitech and THX logos, because yes, this little gem is THX, Dolby and DTS certified, which is a guarantee of sound quality worthy of recording studios.

If you’re planning to buy the Logitech Z906 5.1 for your sim-racing setup, you’ll have a unique audio experience, pushing your driving immersion even further. However, you can expect to pay around €500 for it. It’s expensive, yes, but quality is priceless too.
