The Best High-End PS5 Steering Wheels
In the top-of-the-range category, we present 5 PlayStation 5-compatible steering wheels, including the indispensable Fanatec and other options offering an excellent compromise between quality and steering feel.
Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro
Designed in conjunction with Gran Turismo Sport and in partnership with Polyphony Digital, the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro is the first officially licensed Direct Drive steering wheel for PlayStation 5.
One of the first things to know about the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro is that it is sold, by default, as a bundle. You get the GT DD Pro base itself, the Gran Turismo wheel, a set of CSL clutchless pedals and the DD desk stand. So, unlike the CSL DD or other Fanatec bases, you don’t have to bother looking for compatible products. You get everything in one go, right from the start.
The Fanatec Gran Turismo DD bundle is available in 3 versions: the entry-level pro version (5Nm), the pro version (8Nm) and the premium version.
The steering wheel is 28 cm in diameter, covered in synthetic leather and very easy to grip. It has all the buttons of the PlayStation controller and even more, since it includes five funky switches (4+1), an LED strip for revolutions and a small OLED screen for gears or other information.
The Fanatec GT DD Pro steering wheel is also equipped with two plastic paddles with magnetic sensors, the Standard Tuning menu which allows beginners to get started quickly without having to worry about settings, and the QuickRelease system.
The package also includes the CSL 2-pedal crankset, made entirely of metal and offering good resistance.
For GT fans, but not only, the Fanatec GT DD Pro is a remarkable steering wheel with virtually unbeatable value for money.
Advantages
- Incredible sensations thanks to Direct Drive.
- High-quality materials.
- Fully configurable.
Disadvantages
- The price of additional options remains high.

This Fanatec steering wheel is distributed under an official F1 and PlayStation license, and is of course compatible with Play Station 5 and PlayStation 4, as well as PC.
The Fanatec Clubsport Racing Wheel F1 features a 15Nm direct-drive motorized force feedback. Direct-drive wheels bypass the belts and gears of standard wheels for a literally direct connection between wheel and drive motor – enabling more precise and authentic control than ever before.
The Clubsport Racing Wheel F1 offers an incredible 2520° degree of rotation. It has a diameter of 27 cm and features a forged blue carbon fiber front plate and perforated genuine leather grips for enhanced breathability. It features two CNC-machined aluminum paddles with magnets and offers plug and play functionality, revLEDs for head-up RPM tracking, a 1-inch OLED display (128×64 pixels), multi-position switches and a list of other incredible features.

- Difficult to grasp for beginners.
Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Extreme
Fanatec, the German sim-racing peripherals giant, is determined to reclaim its title as segment leader with its latest product launches. Not only has the brand released a brand-new range of steering wheels developed in partnership with BMW and Sparco, but its catalog has also been enriched with two new Direct Drive bases and two new bundles.
For fans of sim-racing on Playstation, the brand has simply redone a rather simple recipe, but a winning one I must say. Sony console racers are no doubt familiar with Fanatec’s Gran Turismo bundles, and the manufacturer has updated its catalog this time with a new steering wheel and a new base developing 15 nm of constant torque.
This GT DD Extreme bundle includes the ClubSport DD+ base, which delivers a constant 15 nm of torque, more than enough for racing fans on the small screen. On the menu: a high degree of customization of the base’s parameters, enabling it to deliver the most precise force feedback, whether on the lightest or the heaviest effects. You’ll experience total immersion.
And to top it all off, Fanatec has worked with Polyphonie Studio on a new steering wheel, slightly more premium than the old one, but very much like it too. You can’t change a winning team, can you?
This new bundle is available now on the Fanatec website for €1,300. Compatibility is obviously with PC and Playstation, and of course with other Fanatec products.
Advantages
- 15 Nm of torque for an immersive driving experience
- Advanced force feedback customization
- Premium design in collaboration with BMW and Sparco
Disadvantages
- Price a little high
- Lightweight and compact
Thrustmaster T598
Thrustmaster has long dominated the entry-level sim-racing segment, notably with its affordable, high-performance bundles. Today, however, the company is taking on a well-known name in the industry: Fanatec and its CSL DD.
With a constant torque of 5 nm, and a very practical overboost function I must say, the T598 is a Direct Drive bundle including the base, obviously, a swappable steering wheel with QR and a crankset, all for just €499. What could be better!
Price-wise, it’s definitely aggressive for the segment the T598 is targeting. Opposite us, of course, we have Fanatec and its CSL DD bundle, as well as Moza Racing with the R3 (for Xbox) and the R5. In terms of performance, the all-new Direct Drive axial engine offers a much better feel than Thrustmaster’s other bases, such as the T248, T300RS and others. The DD is fluid, responsive and precise, and offers an overall better feel than Thrustmaster’s smaller bases.
This new T598 base offers an excellent budget-friendly alternative to a T818 if Thrustmaster’s ecosystem is your preference. However, the T598 quickly shows its limits against the competition, notably Fansatec’s CSL DD, which is much better in terms of feel at the wheel. Whether it’s big effects or light ones, the CSL DD is still well ahead of the T598, even if it is showing its age.
Advantages
- 5 nm constant torque
- Complete bundle at an attractive price
- Scalable crankset
Disadvantages
- Average build quality, especially for the steering wheel
- Ergonomics that leave something to be desired

How do you decide which PlayStation 5 steering wheel is right for you?
To determine which PlayStation 5-compatible steering wheel is right for you, there are a number of criteria to take into account, which we’ll explain here.
- What kind of simracer are you?
If you want to compete with other simracers in an elite or professional style, you should get a high-end steering wheel. If you’re still a beginner looking to improve the limitations of your PlayStation 5 controller, a mid-range or entry-level steering wheel will suffice.
- Your budget
The price you invest in your steering wheel will determine which category you can choose. The most expensive steering wheels are not necessarily the best, so we always recommend comparing the features offered by different models at the same price.
- Your gaming platform
Some models can also be connected to an Xbox or PC console. If you’re also used to playing on these types of platforms, we advise you to opt for a steering wheel model that’s compatible with all the platforms you have at home.
- Your favorite racing styles
The style of racing that attracts your attention is also a determining factor. If F1 simulators are your thing, ideally the design and button layout will allow you to give your best in these races. The same applies to GT, NASCAR, rally and other games. The ideal is to choose a steering wheel that suits your tastes.
What to look for in a good Sim-racing steering wheel for PlayStation 5?
Here are a few factors to bear in mind when looking to buy a PlayStation 5 steering wheel:
- Immersion
It’s essential that the steering wheel model chosen offers the best sense of realism. If we choose a model incorporating the Force Feedback system, realism will be guaranteed thanks to a motor that perfectly simulates the driving of a real car. Other features and accessories (LED screen, gearbox, pedals, etc.) can enhance your immersion in the game.
- Angle of rotation
Wheel rotation refers to the angle at which your wheel can turn in both directions. Generally speaking, the higher the rotation, the better for you. With a higher degree of rotation, you’ll have more freedom to execute your turns and drifts.
- Force feedback system
Force feedback and vibration are the most important aspects of your steering wheel to achieve the most realistic driving experience possible. Although many steering wheel assemblies feature force feedback and vibration, many are quite mediocre or practically non-existent.
In brief / Conclusion
Whichever model you choose from those we’ve featured in this article, it will always offer you more feel and immersion than your traditional PlayStation manual.
We hope you’ve found this article and our review useful, and that this guide to the best PlayStation 5 steering wheels will help you choose the model that best suits your tastes and budget.
