Moza Racing is clearly on the offensive Moza Racing and the Chinese manufacturer of sim-racing peripherals intends to make a name for itself and increase its market share. I have to admit that Moza really surprised me, especially with its quality bases offering a very good return on investment compared to the competition. Moza more or less came from nowhere, and has nevertheless managed to offer us a fairly complete range of sim-racing peripherals, and above all one of the highest quality.

As you know, sim-racing is all about knowledge, skill and know-how. There aren’t that many brands offering quality products, and it’s clear that Moza Racing is part of the pool of gifted manufacturers for sim-racing, alongside Fanatec , Simagic and Simucube.

At present, Moza’s catalog pales in comparison with the competition, especially from brands that have been established in the segment for many years. But that doesn’t mean that products from this Chinese manufacturer are of poor quality, oh no. Among the wheels offered by Moza, we have the CS V2P which is a rather standard wheel but of very good quality. In what follows, I’m going to introduce you to this steering wheel, giving you its strong points, its few weak points and what I think of it.

Main and technical features of the steering wheel

  • 33 cm diameter full-round steering wheel
  • Aluminum alloy structure
  • Leather all around the wheel
  • Forged carbon fiber magnetic vanes
  • RevLED on top of front panel
  • 10 fully customizable Pit House controls
  • Compatible with all brand bases

Design

As far as I’m concerned, Moza Racing steering wheels are more or less sober, and the CS V2P is no exception. So we have a completely round wheel with a diameter of 33 cm. It’s what you’ll find on virtually every car, and you’ll quickly get used to it, especially if you drive regularly.

The structure is very sober, with a faceplate entirely free of buttons or controls. In fact, these are located on a kind of module at the rear that looks very similar to those used in GT. There’s also a white band on the top of the steering wheel, with 2 colors dominating the build: dark gray and black. However, the controls have green, blue, red and yellow stickers, but this is to help you use them.

Customized assembly

As with all Moza Racing steering wheels, the CS V2P uses the brand’s famous Quick Release, which was most certainly developed in collaboration with Simagic. It’s simply one of the best on the market, second only to Simucube, but simpler to use, as some would say.

As I said earlier, this steering wheel can be used on all Moza wheels, from the R5 to the R21, via the R12. It’s a bit odd on Moza’s part, as this manufacturer loves to segment its product range, but hey, it’s always worth it.

Mounting the wheel on a base is very easy, as it is with Fanatec’s QR, well, just about: you pull the ring on the QR, align the wheel and move it into position, then release it once everything’s in place. On the other hand, you don’t have the connection pins as on the Fanatec QR, which makes installation of the CS V2P much easier.

Manufacturing and finishing

For this steering wheel, we’re superbly well spoiled. The structure is made of aluminum alloy from the aeronautics industry. All around, you’ll find top-quality leather. And as for the pallets, they’re simply forged carbon fiber. A very premium steering wheel, I can tell you.

The build quality is simply irreproachable, as is the finish. On close inspection of this steering wheel, I couldn’t find a single manufacturing defect. Nothing, nada. Everything is perfect, as on virtually all the brand’s steering wheels.

Handling the steering wheel

So, this wheel is 33 cm in diameter, which is more or less what you’ll find on everyone’s car, except perhaps Peugeot’s with their little steering wheels. You have a total of 10 controls, including 6 buttons and 2 switches. 6 controls are easily accessible without your hands leaving the steering wheel, as they are located on the top of the faceplate and right next to your fingers.

On the other hand, 2 buttons and 2 switches are on the lower part of the faceplate, and you’ll need to do a bit of hand gymnastics to reach them. No big deal, and I suggest you map them to commands that you won’t use that much when racing.

Apart from that, the ergonomics of this steering wheel are pretty good, and it’s enhanced by 2 paddles at the rear which are magnetic and made of forged carbon fiber. The palettes click superbly, I must admit, and that’s to be expected given that they’re magnetic.

Sensations during play

What’s the value of CS V2P in sim-racing? All in all, it’s a good steering wheel for racing sessions in various competitions. Its 33 cm diameter gives it an excellent grip, and you won’t feel out of place if you’re used to driving a car or even sim-racing.

The structure is very solid, thanks mainly to the use of aluminum alloy. When it comes to grip, leather is a real plus. By the way, I did my tests without gloves, with an R9 base, and this steering wheel is correct for the 9 nm of torque of the Moza peripheral. However, 33 cm is a bit large for such a base, and you’re bound to get some clipping if you push it too far. The CS V2P is much better suited to an R12, even if you lower the base power.

The controls on the upper part of the faceplate are easy to use and reach. The lower ones, on the other hand, need to be used with concentration. But hey, you’ve only got 2 switches and 2 buttons, so it’s not the end of the world. Speaking of controls, the 10 in all are short, especially if you love doing F1 or GT3 sessions, and this is one of the wheel’s few shortcomings.

As for the paddles, I found them a joy to use, and the fact that they’re made of forged carbon fiber accentuates this.

Compatibility

The CS V2P is compatible with the entire Moza ecosystem, from the base R5 to the R21, and this is frankly a bit odd coming from the Chinese manufacturer. Usually there’s always an exception with Moza’s wheels, but this time it’s the whole peloton that’s taken care of.

As far as sim-racing titles are concerned, you’ll have no problem with this steering wheel, as long as the base you’re on is compatible with it.

Value for money

Priced at €279 incl. VAT, the CS V2P offers very good value for money as far as I’m concerned, and is superbly positioned against the competition from Fanatec. The build quality of this wheel is simply outstanding, and this is coupled with the use of premium materials throughout the wheel, including forged carbon fiber.

My verdict

I’ve really enjoyed racing with the CS V2P, especially when you couple it with a good Moza base. The steering wheel feels very solid in the hands, and the QR can be more or less used in a race car, as well as ensuring an unshakeable connection with the engine driveshaft.

What’s more, its price positioning is excellent, making it a sensible choice in its segment, provided, of course, that you jump into the Moza pool. But then, I have to admit that the Chinese manufacturer’s catalog of sim-racing peripherals is more than adequate, titillating the big names in the game without the slightest problem.

If you’re into Moza products and are looking for a steering wheel to take part in many sim-racing competitions, the CS V2P is an option I highly recommend.
