If everyone in the Sim-Racing world has heard of the manufacturer Heusinkveld, it is often because of the praise for their cranksets. The Dutch brand is indeed famous on the market for making the best cranksets on the market, including the Heusinkveld Sprint and Heusinkveld Ultimate, but some people forget that it also offers an incredible shifter model in its product line. And that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today: the famous Heusinkveld Sim Sequential Shifter.
We were able to test this model and in this article we will tell you everything you need to know about it and everything we thought about it. We will list its main features, tell you what type of player it is, what we think are its advantages and disadvantages and where you can get it.
Features of the Heusinkveld Shifter Sim Sequential Shifter
The Heusinkveld Sim Sequential Shifter is a high-end shifter with a compact and robust sequential shifting system.
It can’t be used in H gearbox or handbrake, but this doesn’t prevent it from being a very good sequential shifter.
Here is a list of its main features:
- The Heusinkveld Sh ifter consists of a tiny CNC laser-cut stainless steel box that contains all the electronics and the ball spring resistance system. It accurately simulates the feeling of actually engaging a gear in a real race car.
- The Heusinkveld Shifteroffers a similar shifting feel to that found in junior or entry-level Formula cars.
- This gearbox also features rubber stops that reduce the noise of the final shift.
- The Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential is intentionally quite compact, so that it can be mounted on a range of racing cockpits.
- This model comes with three types of levers of different levels and three gear knobs. You can choose between a 30 mm straight lever or a 50 mm curved lever and between three different shapes of the gear knob.
- In addition, the lever of this model is of type M10, which allows the incorporation of knobs of other manufacturers.
- The Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential unfortunately only works on the PC but is compatible with all steering wheel models on the market. It can be connected directly to the PC via a USB connection or via a female Molex port (4×1 2.54 mm) to a third party device.
- Each shift lever is supplied with a table clamp. This allows you to connect the shifter to any table-like surface. The table clamp can be detached from the shifter if you need a different mounting solution.
- An alternate mounting plate is also provided with each shifter to facilitate mounting to a structure on the side or under the unit. This plate fits directly onto aluminum profiles up to 40 mm in size.
For what type of person?
The Heusinkveld Sh ifter is ideal for Sim-racers who want to use a sequential gearbox without the need for an H-shift.
Thanks to the different levers and gear knobs supplied with this model, it adapts to all styles of racing.
It is a model designed only for PC gamers since it is only compatible on this platform. Xbox or PlayStation players will not be able to connect it to their console.
Its advantages
Our test allowed us to form our own opinion and to discover for ourselves what the advantages of the Heusinkveld Shifter are.
In the first place, what makes the Heusinkveld Shifter such a good product, it is its advanced and very compact design, as well as the high quality materials and technology that compose it. This gearbox is reliable, resistant even to heavy use and should therefore offer you countless hours of pleasure. Its aesthetic aspect is not bad at all and the manufacturer even thought of adding rubber pads to make this model even quieter!
Secondly, we were really pleasantly surprised by the authentic sense of shifting that the Heusinkveld Shifter offers us. This gearbox is almost bulletproof and can handle extremely fickle shifts. The gearshift is very authentic and requires a lot of initial force. It then “loosens up”, like a real sequential gearbox. The sensations it provides are bluffing of realism.
Another advantage of the Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential is that it isvery customizable. First, 3 different levers and 3 different knobs are included for a total of 9 different possible configurations. This allows you to choose the configuration that suits you best and which of the levers or knobs you are most comfortable playing with, depending on the game or type of racing. But theHeusinkveld Shifter is also compatible with commercially available M10 extensions, giving you many options.
Finally, we really liked that the Heusinkveld Shifter was so easy to install and fit. This model is fully plug-and-play via USB and you can also connect it to the pedal to save USB ports. This model also offers multiple mounting options as each lever comes with a table clamp and an alternative mounting plate, allowing you to install it on different stands.
Its disadvantages
We have to admit that it wasn’t as easy as that to list the negatives of the Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential, but we did find a few minor drawbacks.
First of all, what is most obvious and certainly the biggest flaw of the Heusinkveld Shifter is its high price. It is not a cheap material and it is not supposed to be anyway. This is a piece of simulation equipment that most people don’t need because they can use the rotary paddles on the steering wheels to shift gears. At €209, it’s clearly not a simulation accessory that everyone can afford. But those looking for a sequential shifter should definitely check it out.
While we liked the design and format of the Heusinkveld Sim Sequential Shifter, we also found that it is not a design that fits all platforms or cockpits. There are different mounting options for the shifter, but mounting it on “traditional cockpits” can be a bit tricky. This model is designed more for highly adjustable cockpits, where you can adjust the position of your shifter largely to your liking.
Finally, the last negative point in our eyes concerning the Heusinkveld Sh ifter is thatit is unfortunately only compatible with the PC. For fans of consoles such as Xbox or PlayStation, unfortunately, you will have to turn to another model because you will not be able to connect this lever to your gaming platform.
Where to get it and for how much?
The Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential is available for purchase on the Digital Motorsports website.
Its total price varies according to the VAT of your place of purchase as well as the delivery charges.
You can eventually find it for sale in other stores on the web, but in terms of price, it will be difficult to find cheaper than on this site.
Conclusion
To conclude, the Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential is not the cheapest on the market, but it is certainly one of the best. It is solid, compact and can be mounted almost anywhere.
The feel of the Heusinkveld Shifter is wonderful and it works as intended, without any flaws. Its external appearance follows the usual guideline of the Dutch brand, being a rock-solid stainless steel piece, closer to professional racing equipment than to general public simulation equipment.
There is no doubt that the Heusinkveld Sim Shifter Sequential is an excellent addition to the cockpit of any Sim-racing player looking for better immersion, without excluding the best quality.
