Project Motor Racing is free to play on PS5 through Sunday, November 1. The trial gives you access to the entire base game, including multiplayer, and does not require a PS Plus subscription. The game then costs €49.99, and your progress is saved if you purchase it. This is your chance to check out a racing simulator that has been significantly revamped since its release thanks to updates in 2026.

Project Motor Racing: The trial unlocks the entire base game

The promotion began on October 26 at 12:00 a.m. UTC and ends on November 1 at 11:59 p.m. UTC. On the PlayStation Store, the game’s page features a “Trial” offer for €0; simply add it to your library to start the download. More than 70 cars, 14 categories, and 18 tracks are available to play right away, with no progression required to unlock them. Only the separately sold packs are not included in the trial.

In single-player mode, Career mode requires you to manage your budget as much as it does to win races, with a sponsor and objectives chosen at the start. For a quick race, Race Weekend lets you set up your own event, either as a one-make series or with multiple categories on the grid. ModHub, the community’s mod library, is also included in the trial.

On PS5, online play normally requires a PS Plus subscription, but the trial opens up Ranked Racing, Factory Driver Challenges, the Endurance Hall, and custom lobbies to everyone. If you purchase the game afterward, your progress—including your in-game progress, settings, and best times—will carry over. The game is played with a controller, utilizing the DualSense’s haptic feedback and trigger effects, just like driving a real car.

What the 2026 updates changed

For those who had set the game aside after a rocky launch on November 25, 2025, this demo offers a chance to see the progress made since then. The bulk of the work has focused on handling: Version 2.1, released in late July, rebuilt the GT3 and GT4 models based on the homologation data from the real cars (we detailed its contents here), and then version 2.2, released in August, began the overhaul of the LMDH prototypes, covering everything from the internal combustion engine to braking and hybrid energy recovery.

The September 2.3 update added the Lamborghini Temerario and a Track Day category to the base game, and it directly affects PS5 players: UDP telemetry now works on consoles, allowing data to be fed to a compatible dashboard or external app. In early October, a patch also recalibrated Trueforce-compatible Logitech steering wheels, which were sending excessively strong vibrations through the rumble motors.

After the test: €49.99 and a new DLC on November 10

The base game is still listed at €49.99 on the PlayStation Store, with no discount during the trial period. Six paid packs have already been released, and a seventh will be available on November 10, a little over a week after the offer ends. This World Endurance Pack, which the studio is promoting as its biggest DLC, features 11 cars: the 2016 LMP1 hybrids (Audi R18, Porsche 919 Hybrid, and Toyota TS050 Hybrid), two LMP2s, and six GTPs from the 1986 and 1988 IMSA championships, including the Porsche 962. It also adds Fuji Speedway, featuring both its current layout and its 1966 version with the first banked turn.

A week of racing gives you enough time to decide whether the game is worth its €49.99 price tag on PS5. And since you have nothing to lose by buying it, every race you complete in Career mode during the trial already counts toward your progress.
