For all those who enjoyed the car racing and destruction game Wreckfest, here’s the sequel to the game available in early access since March 20, 2025 on Steam. Wreckfest 2 is developed by Finnish studio Bugbear Entertainment, which specializes in the realism of collisions in car racing. The game is published by THQ Nordic, an Austrian subsidiary of the Embracer Group, which has a reputation for reviving cult licenses and supporting independent studios.

So, what’s in store for this new opus in early release?

Various game modes already available

Already in its early version, we have four game modes at our disposal, allowing us to experience the world of Wreckfest 2 in different ways.

The single-player mode allows us to take on different bot partners in car races and derbies. As a reminder, derby mode includes vehicle destruction battles in car races. The winner is the last car left standing. In single-player mode, up to 24 players can compete.

Multiplayer mode is also available in early access, much to our delight. As of now, we can take on other human players in classic races or in derby mode.

Wreckfest 2 also features two special modes. In this version, we can create our own races by setting up an event. We can define the number of players, the type of race, the weather conditions and the choice of circuit. With this mode, we’ll finally be able to create our own challenges and test our skills in different game configurations.

The Replay mode lets you replay every memorable moment after a race. Free camera angles allow us to observe every overtake and crash in detail. We also have the option of creating personalized screenshots using the advanced photo mode.

Early bird tours

Wreckfest 2 ‘s classic racing and automotive mayhem takes place in a variety of environments.

The Scrapyard is set in an open-air junkyard of old cars and metal structures. The layout is fairly classic, but makes for some great crashes at intersections and crazy races with oncoming traffic.

The Speedway is a racing stadium with a figure-of-8 circuit. The central meeting point provokes brutal head-on collisions. The derby mode on this circuit makes for real mechanical chaos.

The Savolax Sandpit is set in a sand quarry. This quarry offers slippery surfaces and a number of gradients to enhance the sensations. The circuit’s layout is both wide and downhill, favoring vehicle jumps and loss of control.

Wreckfest 2 also features a testing ground where rules are non-existent. In this area, the presence of ramps and various obstacles allows us to perform impressive jumps and loops. It’s the perfect place to test the sturdiness of your vehicles.

The early version of Wreckfest 2 is already complete enough to start having fun and testing our performance on the different types of circuits and game modes available. In May 2025, the game should be enriched with two new circuits and two new car models. Later on, career mode, advanced vehicle customization, multiplayer optimization and an economic system for buying and upgrading cars will be added. The official release (version 1.0) is scheduled for 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
