✅ The Ultimate Sim-Racing Setup on PS5

“We love its precision, its constant power and the exceptional immersion it offers on PS5”

⭐ Rating: 9.8/10

As I’m sure you’re aware, sim-racing setups are a dime a dozen, covering virtually every motorsport discipline. Whether it’s endurance racing, GT, Formula, rally or a setup that’s a bit of everything, they all have one thing in common: the Direct Drive base, the steering wheel, the pedals and the cockpit.

The PC sim-racing market is highly competitive, with brands offering high-performance, high-quality and, above all, competitively-priced peripherals. For consoles, it’s a different story. Manufacturers have to collaborate with Sony and Xbox to ensure that their bases or steering wheels are equipped with chips that enable communication with Playstation and Xbox.

Currently, few brands offer an ecosystem for consoles, due to the chip issue.

But don’t worry, it’s possible to get a sim-racing setup, whether on Playstation or Xbox, and today we’re going to look at the best on PS5, spread over 3 categories.

The best PS5 sim-racing setups at the top of the range

Fanatec ClubSport DD+, Porsche GT3 R and ClubSport Pedals V3

mclaren gt3 v2

We’re kicking off this list with a top-of-the-range bundle from Fanatec. For the base, it’s the ClubSport DD+ and its 15 nm of constant torque. As for the steering wheel, I’m all for taking the Porsche GT3 R in leather version, which is just magnificently beautiful to look at. It’s a flat-bottomed wheel with a 32 cm diameter, an official replica of those fitted to Porsche GT3s, 6 paddles and lots of controls on a hub of sorts at the back of the steering wheel. But the great thing about Fanatec is that the brand offers over thirty wheels to choose from. If this one isn’t to your taste, you can pick up another from the brand’s catalog.

As far as the pedalboard is concerned, I suggest the ClubSport Pedals V3 with its 3 pedals, a magnificent design and a Load Cell that is considered among the best in its category.

As for the chassis, we’re sticking to the same Fanatec theme with the ClubSport GT Cockpit.

And finally, the bank loan! The base can be exchanged for €1,000, the steering wheel is €860 excluding promotions, but currently benefiting from a €210 discount, and the pedals are €330. The total is around €3,200 for a complete, high-performance and, above all, upgradeable setup.

The best mid-range PS5 sim-racing setups

The Fanatec GT DD Extreme bundle

mclaren gt3 v2

We continue this list with one of the leaders of the sim-racing market for many years, present in the segment for more than 2 decades, and more or less the first brand we think of when talking about sim-racing. Yes, Fanatec again, the German racing simulation giant.

If you’re looking to set up a Fanatec setup, the manufacturer has everything you need, and I’d go so far as to say more than enough.

For our list, I took the GT DD Extreme, with a ClubSport DD+ base with 15 nm of constant torque, a Gran Turismo-licensed steering wheel and a choice of either CSL Elite or ClubSport Pedals V3 cranksets.

In terms of feel, we’re very well served by this base. It’s precise, linear and immersive, and more than sufficient for sim-racing on the PS5. The steering wheel may be a little on the cheap side, at least compared with Fanatec’s catalog, but you can change it very easily. As for the pedals, both are Load Cell, with 3 pedals.

Let’s move on to the price. The steering wheel and base are priced at €1,300, and the pedals cost €300 and €330 respectively. As for the chassis, I’m in favor of keeping the Fanatec GT Cockpit, which is highly adaptable to many sim-racing disciplines.

Fanatec also offers this setup as a complete bundle for around €2,735, ideal for those who want something turnkey.

The Logitech G Pro bundle

mclaren gt3 v2

For a long time, Logitech was content to target the low-end market for sim-racing peripherals, competing mainly with Thrustmaster. Both manufacturers dominate this segment, even in 2025, especially if you don’t want to pay more than €250 for a complete setup.

But the situation changed a few years ago with the arrival of the G Pro, the first bundle with a Direct Drive base. This one is aesthetically very beautiful, even if it’s rather large for the power it develops. Speaking of power, the motor spits out around 11nm of constant torque, which isn’t bad for a PS5 setup.

Attached to this base is a beautiful flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a premium one at that. It’s equipped with a Quick Release inspired by those used in motor racing, and allows you to swap wheels quickly as needed. There are a total of 13 controls (buttons, rotatry, funky switch), 4 paddles and a small screen on the base.

The pedals are RS Pedals. It can be upgraded with a clutch pedal, and features a Load Cell on the brake. Let’s talk a little about price now. The bundle costs around €1250 for PS5 and PC compatibility. As for the chassis, I’m in favor of the Fanatec ClubSport GT Cockpit, which retails for around €1,200 with its bucket seat.

The best entry-level PS5 sim-racing setups

The Thrustmaster T598 bundle

mclaren gt3 v2

Thrustmaster is a big name in the gaming industry, and has been for over 20 years. The brand dominates the budget-friendly sim-racing segment with belt-driven bases that deliver excellent sensations for the target audience.

However, the brand changed its tune a few years ago, releasing its first Direct Drive base, the T818, with its 10 nm of torque. Recently, the manufacturer presented and marketed the T598, with 5 nm of torque and an overboost function that can double power.

The bundle chosen therefore includes the base in question, a 30 cm round composite steering wheel and a rather basic, but upgradable, LTE pedalboard. This bundle is perfect for getting started with sim-racing on the PS5, and costs just €500. Add a Playseat chassis, like the Evolution for €300, and you’re ready to take your first laps around the track.

The Logitech RS50 bundle

mclaren gt3 v2

Like Thrustmaster, Logitech is well known in the gaming and sim-racing industry. The Swiss brand has long operated in the same segment as Thrustmaster, with gear-driven bases such as the G29, G920 and G923. But the brand has bolstered its catalog with its first DD base, the G Pro for the mid-range, and now the RS50 for the entry-level.

This base features an electric motor that develops 8 nm of maximum torque, with a very reduced size. Coupled with this, Logitech sets the bar pretty high against Thrustmaster with an all-metal, TPU leather steering wheel that’s 29 cm in diameter and beautifully finished. It’s top quality compared to Thrustmaster’s T598, and will therefore cost a little more.

Unfortunately, Logitech doesn’t offer a standard pedalboard in this bundle. But you can take the Load Cell RS Pedals, with their metal structure and minimalist design.

Let’s move on to the invoice. The base and steering wheel cost €650, while the crankset can be exchanged for €150. It’s expensive, I realize, but the base is more powerful, the steering wheel is metal, not composite, and the crankset is Load Cell. Technically speaking, this bundle should be on the mid-range list, but it doesn’t make the grade in terms of power. So…

To finalize your setup, I recommend the same chassis as for the previous bundle, namely the Playseat Evolution.
