The world of sim-racing is starting to reach more and more console gamers, particularly with the democratization of titles like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport, on Playstation and Xbox respectively. These titles are both sim-arcade and simulation, if you want them to be.

Of course, simulation means the sim-racing setup that goes with it, especially from Thrustmaster, Logitech or Fanatec. These three brands are the most popular on the home console market, with Fanatec dominating the premium segment, and Logitech just behind thanks to its latest Pro Racing bundle.

To complete a sim-racing setup, virtual drivers need a pedalboard, because without one, the racing experience will be very diluted in feel. On consoles, options are few and far between, especially when it comes to quality. And this situation is unlikely to improve for the simple reason that Sony and Microsoft are very selective when it comes to collaborating with brands of sim-racing peripherals.

In what follows, I’ve put together a list of the best pedalboards for PS5, and we’ll look at those for Xbox Series X and S in a later article. This listing will be divided into three categories: entry-level, mid-range and top-of-the-range, to appeal to all budgets.

The best entry-level PS5 pedalboards (under €200)

Let’s start with the entry-level pedalboards, the ones that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Unfortunately, there are only two options on this list, but they’re perfectly suited to the Sunday rider.

Fanatec CSL Pedals

The best PS5 pedalboard for under €200

The CSL Pedals represent Fanatec’s entry-level pedalboard, with an optional Load Cell variant. This pedalboard uses an all-metal structure, and a 2 or 3 pedal configuration if you wish.

The design is less sober than that of the T3PM, which we’ll look at next, but it’s still simple in the absolute sense. The footrest is black and the pedals are silver, with black plastic pedal plates. Honestly, I’d have preferred an all-black color, but then, there’s no accounting for taste.

Sensations are very basic. There are 12-bit magnetic sensors on all pedals. The gas pedal is very smooth, with virtually no resistance. The brake has a spring-loaded system at the rear, but it’s soft underfoot. However, you can upgrade with the Load Cell kit.

In the standard version, the CSL Pedals cost €80, the clutch pedal €40 and the LC kit €140. It’s still an inexpensive option that’s PS5-compatible only via a specific base. Incidentally, this is the case for all the pedalboards on this list.

Thrustmaster T3PM

Next up is a Thrustmaster product, the T3PM. This is a revised version of the T3PAincluding a brake pedal spring, 10-bit encoder and magnetic sensors.

The T3PM features a composite frame, which is just a fancy way of saying it’s plastic, and metal pedal plates. Design-wise, it’s not bad, combining simplicity and sobriety.

For racing feel, the magnetic pedal sensors are precise, thanks in particular to the 10-bit encoder. The gas pedal and clutch are very supple, offering little resistance underfoot. As for the brake pedal, the spring provides good resistance for those who want something better than an On/Off switch, and it can be configured by swapping the spring.

This pedalboard retails for €130, and you’ll need a Thrustmaster base to use it on the PS5.

The best mid-range PS5 pedalboards (between €200 and €300)

Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2

The best PS5 pedalboards between €200 and €300

Now we’re starting to talk a little heavy on the feel. The CSL Elite is a completely revised variant of the CSL Pedals, with a stock 3-pedal configuration and a 90 kg Load Cell. It’s certainly less than the T-LCM, but it’s a real LC with an elastomer.

The design is very sober, with textured black for the entire device. The three pedals are identical in design, with numerous adjustments that can be made to them. And by the way, the CSL Elite is a peripheral that must be installed on a cockpit to avoid problems when braking.

For feel, we’re treated to a two-stage LC: a small spring takes care of the initial braking stroke and then you get to the elastomer for the second stage. The spring compresses rather well, but the elastomers, not so much, giving you a better reading of braking pressure. The result is a much better and, above all, more realistic feel underfoot.

In addition, Fanatec offers springs and elastomers in the CSL Elite box, so you can fine-tune the brake settings to your preferences. This crankset costs €300 and must be connected to a Fanatec base compatible with Sony’s PS5 console.

Thrustmaster T-LCM Pedals

thrustmaster t-lcm

This is the only Load Cell pedalboard offered by Thrusmaster: the T-LCM. In terms of design, think of it as a major evolution of the T3PM. It’s a little flashier, with an all-chrome footrest and pedals, and metal too, but that’s okay. In any case, it’s better-looking than a CSL Pedals as far as I’m concerned.

All 3 pedals have magnetic sensors, this time with 16-bit encoders, and the gas pedal and clutch are sensitive, smooth pedals. In reality, the T-LCM doesn’t change the feel of these two pedals too much, as the biggest change has been made to the brake.

The middle pedal is a Load Cell pedal, capable of withstanding up to 100 kg of force. What’s more, you can change the springs to adapt the resistance to your preferences. Speaking of resistance, the LC is very good for its category, even though there’s no elastomer in the system, unlike the competition. Incidentally, the T-LCM is priced at €230, less than its direct competitor.

The best high-end PS5 pedalboards (over €300)

Fanatec Clubsport Pedals V3

⭐ The best PS5 pedalboard for over €300

notice-fanatec-clubsport-pedals

Technically speaking, the ClubSport represents Fanatec’s mid-range range. But when it comes to pedalboards, this is the best the German brand has to offer.
The ClubSport V3 is one of the most beautiful pedalboards available on the market today, in terms of design. It may be outdone by those available on PC only, but that’s not the point. You have three identical pedals at the front, which are also customizable if you wish to change them. The color is gun metal, with red accents.
The gas pedal and clutch pedals are spring-loaded to offer resistance in use. In reality, it’s mainly the clutch that feels a little hard, and that’s normal too. As for the brake pedal, its LC is adjustable in different resistance levels and can take 90 kg of force. Compared to the competition, that’s not much, but it’s more than enough.
The ClubSport V3’s sensations are excellent in sim-racing, and very immersive in full race. What’s more, there’s a vibration motor to simulate ABS and loss of grip during acceleration.
Now for the price. The ClubSport V3 retails for €400 in the normal version, and €600 in the Inverted version for pro racers.

Logitech G-PRO Racing Pedals

Let’s finish with a product from Logitech, the Pro Racing Pedals. It’s an LC pedalboard, like the Fanatec, but this time with 100 kg of force. The design is very attractive, entirely in black, with a few electric blue accents on the LC.

Throttle and brake are available with rear springs for added resistance. The Pro Pedals’ three pedals are fully adjustable to your preferences, as is the Load Cell.

The feel of this crankset is very good indeed, for a Logitech first. Throttle and clutch are linear and smooth. For braking, the Load Cell is powerful and adjustable too. As I said above, this Pro Pedals is really good for a first LC pedalboard from Logitech.

Let’s talk price and compatibility now. This pedalboard retails for €390, and PS5 compatibility requires Logitech’s Pro Racing base.
