Our rating: 9.6/10
Since its appearance on the sim-racing market, the brand Moza Racing showed his determination to take on the big names in the game. I have to admit that it takes a certain amount of courage to compete with Fanatec which has more or less dominated the segment for the past twenty years, especially with its fan-base in every country in the world. The German manufacturer of sim-racing peripherals carries a lot of weight, and Moza intends to take market share from it.
So, Moza is a newcomer to the pool of sim-racing peripheral manufacturers, and in the space of 3 years or so, it has managed to concoct some fine products. The range includes some 6 bases, 6 flywheels (some available in several variants), pedalboards and other sim-racing peripherals and accessories. It’s not much compared with Fanatec, which offers more than twenty wheels on its own, but it’s not bad.
Moza’s steering wheels include the GS V2P GTwhich was the brand’s first Formula-type wheel, finally in its first GS version. On the menu: forged carbon fiber, aluminum, fully mapable buttons and excellent grip. In what follows, I’m going to introduce you to this product, tell you about its strengths and weaknesses, and give you my opinion on it.

Design
When a steering wheel is said to be made of forged carbon fiber, its design is often a success, and this is the case with the GS V2P GT. This wheel is just sublime as far as I’m concerned, and will appeal greatly to Formula racers.
Forged carbon fiber looks great on this steering wheel, accented with perforated leather grips. The front panel houses all the controls for the GS V2P GT, strategically placed for excellent ergonomics. What’s more, all buttons are backlit with LEDs of different colors, further enhancing the premium feel of this steering wheel.
Customized assembly
As with all the Chinese brand’s wheels, this steering wheel is equipped with Moza Racing’s QR. The latter is considered by many riders to be one of the best on the market today, and I agree.
To mount this wheel on one of Moza’s bases (from R9 to R21), simply pull on the QR ring, align the wheel with the base, slide it into place and release the ring. Communication between the two devices (steering wheel and base) is wireless, and this is the main difference between the Moza QR and the Fanatec QR.
Manufacturing and finishing
Moza didn’t beat about the bush to produce its Formula wheel: forged carbon fiber, leather, aluminum alloy for the QR, carbon-fiber-reinforced composite for the backplate, and there you have it. It’s very premium, especially when you take this steering wheel in your hands for the first time.
The build quality of the new GS V2P GT is top-notch, and has been improved over the first version of the steering wheel. Now, the wheel is much better finished, in line with the Chinese brand’s manufacturing standards.
When you pick up this steering wheel, you get the feeling that it’s very solid and won’t plug up at all during your sim-racing sessions. The V2P GT is of very high quality, and very well finished too.
Handling the steering wheel
The GS V2P GT is a Formula-type steering wheel, with a rectangular shape typical of Formula 1 wheels. All buttons, apart from the switches, are positioned right next to your hands and fingers, giving this steering wheel superb ergonomics.
The driving position is fairly standard, at 9:15, and the leather handles are pleasant to the touch. Incidentally, I think it’s better to have leather grips, as they’re more durable than alcantara, as was the case on the first GS.
The buttons on this steering wheel are backlit, making them easier to grip and giving the wheel a cool look. The switches in the center of the faceplate are also easily accessible on the fly, as are the 4 rear paddles. Speaking of which, all 4 are magnetic and made of carbon fibre, as well as clicking superbly well. You have 2 for the gears and the others can be used for the clutch, Launch Control, etc.
Sensations during play
The first thing you’ll notice when you place this steering wheel on the base is the LED lighting sequence. Frankly, I thought it was cool, super cool even for a steering wheel, to have all its LEDs light up sequentially.
On the track, it doesn’t take long to find your bearings for riders who are used to Formula sessions. The steering wheel is very solid on the drive axle, whether you use the QR for Moza bases, or the universal hub that allows this steering wheel to be installed on virtually any base . Direct Drive .
The GS V2P GT is an excellent steering wheel for F1, GT and Formula racing. Being rather light thanks to its forged carbon fiber structure, you won’t feel that much clipping, even on a base that comes out less than 12 nm. By the way, the wheel isn’t all that big, and its grip is excellent too.
By the way, the GS V2P GT’s comfort is very good too, allowing you to easily spend hours on it without feeling any discomfort or anything else. Another positive point for on-track sensations is the low-profile steering wheel, which gives you a good field of vision over the top.
Compatibility
On paper, the GS V2P GT is compatible with virtually all Moza bases except the R5 and R3. Honestly, I understand that, even if I don’t endorse it, because Fanatec lets you use its Podium flywheels on CSL bases. But then, the GS V2P GT is a premium steering wheel, and Moza thought it essential to make it compatible with a powerful base.
In terms of platforms, this steering wheel will only work on PCs, as with the bases with which it is compatible. And when it comes to sim-racing titles, the list is pretty comprehensive, from ACC to iRacing, via Forza Motorsport.
Value for money
The GS V2P GT is priced at €479 from Moza Racing’s authorized distributor in France. As far as I’m concerned, it’s great value for money, especially as it’s made from forged carbon fiber. The steering wheel is simply premium, from leather to aluminum alloy to carbon fiber. And it’s only natural that it should have a premium price too.
My verdict
Moza Racing has put things right with the GS V2P GT, at least in comparison with the first GS. It’s true that there were a few shortcomings on the GS, such as the finish not quite in line with its price, a few poorly assembled parts and stickers, and little details here and there.
But with the GS V2P GT, we’re treated to an excellent steering wheel, superbly well finished and with just the right amount of premium construction. What’s more, this premium feel is enhanced tenfold by an excellent grip, promoting comfort and ergonomics over long sim-racing sessions.
If you’re looking for a great-looking, top-of-the-range, Formula-style steering wheel, I’d recommend the GS V2P GT without the slightest hesitation. What’s more, you don’t even need to dive into the Moza universe to get the most out of this wheel, because with the brand’s universal hub, you can use it on virtually any Direct Drive base.
