BeamNG.drive is coming out of the PC. Studio BeamNG has confirmed the game’s arrival on PlayStation 5 later in 2026, with a page already available to add it to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store. For a title long associated with the PC, mods and sometimes muscular configurations, this is an important step.

The announcement is not limited to the console port. BeamNG is also preparing version 0.39, also scheduled for later in 2026, and billed as one of the most ambitious updates in the game’s history. The two subjects are linked: part of the work done to adapt BeamNG.drive to the PS5 will also benefit PC players with this v0.39.

BeamNG on PS5: the soft-body physics challenge

BeamNG.drive is not a classic driving game. Its reputation stems above all from its soft-body physics engine, which simulates vehicles as a network of nodes and beams. Damage is no mere animation: each impact can deform the structure, break components and modify the car’s behavior.

On the PlayStation Blog, Thomas Fischer, CEO of BeamNG GmbH, points out that the physics engine re-evaluates vehicles at 2 kHz, or two thousand times per second. It’s precisely this level of simulation that makes the console port interesting, but also complicated. The studio says it has worked on performance, controls, interface, general ergonomics and several internal systems to preserve the game’s identity on PS5.

The announced content remains extensive: over a thousand vehicle configurations, open environments, missions, freeride, simulated traffic, and extensive customization for each model. Of course, we’ll have to wait for the final PS5 version to judge the results, particularly in terms of fluidity, controller comfort and compatibility with steering wheel setups.

v0.39 prepares for a major technical overhaul

v0.39 won’t just be a content update. BeamNG is announcing a graphical overhaul with a new Direct3D 12 renderer, HDR support, a more natural tonemapper, volumetric clouds with shadows, multi-scatter sky, reworked atmospheric fog and improved night rendering.

The studio is also talking about memory optimizations, with lower RAM and VRAM usage depending on the content and mods used, as well as a reduction in memory spikes during certain loads. This is an important point for such a simulation-heavy game, especially when it comes to opening it up to a console platform.

On the driving side, BeamNG has announced enhanced aerodynamics with slipstreaming, side drafting and bump drafting. A dynamic damping system should also reduce force-feedback oscillations, which may make steering feedback cleaner. A new vehicle is also planned, along with improvements to existing cars.

Multiplayer confirmed but not dated

The point not to be over-interpreted concerns the official multiplayer. BeamNG confirms that it’s real and has been in development for several years, but the studio also specifies that it’s not ready and probably won’t be for a while. It should therefore not be presented as a feature of v0.39.

The correct reading is more cautious: BeamNG.drive is coming to PS5 in 2026, v0.39 prepares a major technical evolution for PC and console, and official multiplayer is well on the roadmap. For gamers, this is already a strong signal. To judge its success, we’ll have to wait for something concrete: date, performance, game comfort and the first playable version of multiplayer.
