As you know, there are many sim-racing brands on the international market. We have world-renowned names such as Fanatec and Simucube, as well as Logitech and Thrustmaster. These players have been in the industry for many years, especially Fanatec, Logitech and Thrustmaster, which have each been around for over 20 years.

As for the others, it’s around 10 years on average, with some players not even of school age yet (like Moza Racing, for example). By the way, speaking of Chinese brands, they are also present on the sim-racing market, as well as on that of smartphones, televisions, and so on. Some are well known, others not so much, especially on the old continent.

There are many examples of Chinese sim-racing brands, and today we’re going to take a look at Conspit. Chances are you haven’t heard of this brand, and that’s normal. We have more experienced and world-renowned players in the game who fly under the radar in France, like Simagic for example.

For Conspit, the manufacturer offers a complete catalog, combining Direct Drive bases, pedalboards, steering wheels and even cockpits. Today, we’re going to take a look at the 300GT, a GT-type steering wheel which, as its name suggests, looks very promising indeed.

Main and technical features of the steering wheel

  • 30 cm diameter flywheel with rectangular shape
  • CNC aluminum alloy frame and 3D carbon fiber faceplate
  • TPU EnduroGrips handles

Design

The design of the 300GT is rather simple, I must say. Since it’s a GT-type steering wheel, the shape is very rectangular, with closed handles at the bottom. The front of the steering wheel is made of 12-layer 3D carbon fiber, which rests on a CNC-machined aluminum alloy structure.

The front panel features a number of controls, including knobs and rotary encoders. The buttons turn transparent white because they are backlit, as are the encoder surrounds.

All in all, the 300GT is a handsome wheel, I must say, combining minimalist design and motor racing. It’s still understated, especially if you opt for simple stickers to liven things up.

Customized assembly

At the rear of the 300GT is a hub with a 6×70 mm and 3×50 mm pattern, which can accommodate more or less all the QRs from other brands that are available on the market. Nevertheless, Conspit doesn’t just make steering wheels, as the brand offers a catalog of sim-racing peripherals, including DD bases.

Assembly of the 300GT, according to your sim-racing setup, is very easy, and all the hardware is supplied. You’ve got the screws, the wrenches and all the tools you need to attach a QR to your steering wheel. However, there’s one thing I didn’t like about Conspit, and it’s cheap of the brand, and that’s the absence of QR for its bases. It’s sold separately for almost €100, and it doesn’t feel right to omit its addition to the steering wheel, especially as the brand offers DD bases.

Manufacturing and finishing

Like most manufacturers of sim-racing peripherals in the same Conspit segment, the 300GT is based on an aluminum alloy structure, with a carbon fiber faceplate. The build quality is quite good in absolute terms.

All the edges of the steering wheel are rounded to prevent you from hurting yourself when using it. Conspit has also used TPU for the grips, giving them a soft, durable texture that allows glove-free driving.

As far as the finish is concerned, I didn’t notice any major defects on the steering wheel. There are a few gaps here and there, but it’s not too bad to be honest. It could be an isolated problem on the unit I’ve got, or it could be that the manufacturing isn’t up to scratch yet. Either way, it’s not a problem for the solidity of the steering wheel.

Handling the steering wheel

The wheel is 30 cm in diameter, hence the name, and rectangular in shape. The grips are closed at the bottom, which is what you’ll find on GT bikes these days. The riding position is standard, i.e. 09H15, with a very good grip, and a material on the handles that prevents profuse sweating.

Ergonomics are very good, with buttons and controls close enough to your hands. At the rear, there are 2 buttons accessible via the indexes, whose force of use is lower than those on the front. There are also 4 paddles on the rear, 2 of which are magnetic and adjustable, while the others are progressive.

The great thing about magnets is that you can change them to give you 3 different levels of force required to use them. I think it’s really nice to have that, especially on a steering wheel that’s not really expensive compared to the competition.

Sensations during play

Given that Conspit is a little-known Asian company, it is keen to take on the industry’s tenors by offering a rather complete solution at a very competitive price. I’ll discuss the price below, after the track feel.

First of all, as I mentioned earlier, the 300 GT’s ergonomics are very good, with controls that fall easily under your fingers. Some buttons are a long way from your thumbs, but the rest are spot-on. The same goes for the magnetic paddles, with their swappable magnets to suit your preferences.

Conspit’s software, which is used to configure all the steering wheel’s functions, including encoders and display, is correct. Compatibility with SimHub is limited to LEDs, unfortunately. The brand wants to push its solution, but it’s not really stable yet, as the software crashes from time to time, crashing all the steering wheel’s telemetry. This isn’t a problem in itself for those accustomed to steering wheels without screens, but for others it’s problematic, especially in the middle of a race.

Compatibility

The Conspit 300GT’s compatibility is limited to the Windows PC platform. As far as Direct Drive bases are concerned, you’ve got the ones offered by the brand, and also those from other manufacturers, provided you’ve got the hub to go with it, and the QR too.

Value for money

The 300GT’s value for money is pretty good, especially when you consider that it’s aiming well above its class. It offers features often found on more expensive steering wheels, and the Conspit costs just €450! without QR, mind you.

My verdict

After trying out this wheel signed Conspit for GT fans, I find it ticks a lot of virtual racers’ boxes. The build quality is good, with a finish slightly below that of the experienced competition. The price is very aggressive given the features on offer, and I love that about Asian wheels.

Would I recommend the 300GT? Yes, for riders on a budget who still want an immersive experience. It’s still a good steering wheel, I think, and one that managed to surprise me in the end.
